Page Background GIVING 42 · 2017 GG SPRINGFIELD BUSINESS JOURNAL n Mission Statement Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. n Service Area Greene, Christian and Webster Counties. n Funding Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri’s model of homeownership leverages volunteer labor, financial contributions, and donated materials. Like all non-profits, we depend on volunteers and donations. Unlike other non- profits, we have a steady form of income through ReStore sales and payments from homeowners. The ReStore accepts donated items from the community, and sells those donations to the public. Our homeowners purchase their Habitat home with a 0% interest, 20-year mortgage and their mortgage payments fund future homes. These sources of income, along with generous financial donors and grants allow us to maintain a consistent level of service to our community. n Goals 1. Continue Neighborhood Revitalization efforts in Woodland Heights neighborhood located in Springfield’s Zone 1 by working collaboratively to improve the community’s quality of life. 2. Build and renovate up to 7 houses a year for Habitat partner homebuyers living at 30-80% of the area media income. 3. Continue to grow our home preservation and repair programs that assist Springfield homeowners in need without the financial means to repair their home. Habitat currently serves nearly 100 households each year with repairs ranging from exterior cleanup to roof repair. n Annual Events Habitat Hold ‘Em (October 28, 2017) a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament and casino night. Hearts & Hammers (November 7, 2017) recognizes Habitat donors, supporters and volunteers. Tool Belts & Bow Ties (March 23, 2018) gathers supporters with the goal of raising enough money in one night to fund the construction of an entire Habitat home. Habitat Home Run (annually) 5k, 10k, 1 Mile Fun Run and Springfield’s Largest Water Balloon Fight. And many Neighborhood Revitalization events in Woodland Heights. n How People & Businesses Can Help Individuals and businesses can donate funds, property and in-kind gifts to sponsor construction costs. Shop tax-free at our ReStore, and donate new and used home improvement items to Habitat’s ReStore – we’ll even pick up your tax-deductible donations for FREE! The ReStore is open to the public, and funds raised support Habitat’s mission to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. n Volunteer Opportunities From family advocacy to construction, and special events to financials, there is a spot for any interest or background on a committee or board of directors. Individuals and group volunteers 16 years and older with skill level ranging from novice to expert are welcome. n Testimonials “I need a Habitat home because I want my son to have stability in his life while growing up; not constantly moving around and changing schools because of high rent. When I applied for a conventional home loan through my credit union, I was denied, so I’m currently living with family to make ends meet. It was not my plan to be a single mom, but I’m trying to make the best of an imperfect situation and still give my son the best life possible.” — Emily, a Habitat for Humanity Homeowner ADDRESS: 2410 S.
