Mission Statement
Our vision for the History Museum on the Square is to
create an amazing regional history museum and expanded
educational destination for Springfield and its visitors.
Located on Route 66, our historic Park Central Square
buildings will be restored to preserve the rich heritage our
downtown area.
n
Service Area
We are a regional museum.
n
Funding
The History Museum on the Square is a not-for-profit
501(c)(3) organization supported by admission fees, special
programs, and the generosity of individuals, foundations
and corporations who believe in the value of preserving
Springfield heritage and sharing it with the community.
n
Goals
In 2018, the History Museum on the Square will finish
renovations on the Historic Barth’s building and the
adjacent historic building, complete with a welcome center,
six permanent galleries, a gallery for temporary exhibits
and special events, office space, and work space. The
Museum’s goal is to create a cultural destination as an
economic driver for the community, while also developing
synergistic ongoing partnerships with other educational
and cultural institutions.
n
Annual Events
History Museum on the Square fundraising events
include Haunted History Bus Tours October 19th-21st, 2017,
the New Year’s Eve Party of the Year at the Hotel Vandivort
on December 31, 2017, and our signature event Moon over
the Mother Road in Spring 2018. We also offer exclusive
members only special events throughout the year. If you
are interested in sponsoring any of these events or making
a donation to the Museum, please contact Krista Adams
at krista@historymuseumonthesquare.org or 417-297-7005.
n
How People & Businesses Can Help
Join a team of Visionaries. The reimagined museum
space will allow visitors to explore the past using
interactive learning features and our staff will be able to
preserve and exhibit more of our fine archival and artifact
collections. When you donate to the museum, purchase
memberships, sponsor an exhibit, or support our History
Museum on the Square fundraisers, you are helping us
create the future history museum that Springfield deserves.
n
Volunteer Opportunities
We offer community volunteers the chance to train
as docents and exhibit hosts. As our museum expands,
additional volunteer opportunities will be offered. We
also have college interns who receive college credit for
extensive volunteer work at our museum.

Testimonials
“The new History Museum on the Square will serve as
a source of pride for our community. Over the past fifteen
years, I have hosted Ozarks Watch Video Magazine and
during those years I have visited communities throughout
the Ozarks. What I have observed is that history museums
are points of pride for those communities. The tourist
industry in the Springfield area will benefit greatly from the
History Museum on the Square coupled with other area
cultural resources. I believe that we have only begun to
tap the amazing attraction that Route 66 represents for
tourism in our region. The economic benefits of growing
our regional tourist industry will be very significant.”
