American Legion Post 379
began meeting in the
early 1900s and is one of the first American Legion Posts in Jack-
son County. Post has 130 members and earned the Truman Award
for the largest membership growth in Missouri.
Post sponsors five boys to Boys State, sets flags out on Memorial
Day and hosts a special World War II veteran recognition.
Post 379 opened The Outpost at 1209 S. Broadway to provide a
space for veterans from all branches to meet, socialize and have
fun. Facility has four big screen televisions, free wireless Internet
for customers, jukebox, fully-tended bar and a variety of appetiz-
ers such as wings and pizza cooked in a convection oven. Managed
by Kim Moore Tunnell, The Outpost is open from 2 p.m. to close
Tuesday through Saturday. Tunnell may be contacted at 690-2611
for reservations.

American Legion Auxiliary Post 379
, Oak
Grove, has been meeting for more than 75 years. Auxiliary mem-
bers meet at 6:30 p.m., the third Monday of each month at the
American Legion Hall, 1209 S. Broadway.
Auxiliary boasts three longtime members who have attended
meetings faithfully.

each 75-year members and
Norma Hewlett
has been a member
for 65 years. This year, the Auxiliary doubled its membership to
55.
The Auxiliary sponsors two girls to Girls State and provides
support to any veteran or veteran’s family in need.
Fundraising events include poppies and dinners on Valentine’s
Day and St. Patrick’s Day. Members also hold a dinner to honor
World War II veterans.

charter for the American Legion Post 379. Meetings are held on
the 2nd Monday of each month at 7pm at the American Legion
located at 1209 S Broadway.
The SAL welcomes new members. Those eligible for member-
ships are males closely related to those who served during conflicts
dating back to World War I, going back to grandparents including
siblings. Membership applications are available at the American
Legion – Outpost.
