Services
Sni Valley Fire District
Sni Valley Fire Protection District is an all-hazards emergency
services provider to the residents of eastern Jackson and western
Lafayette counties. The district serves the cities of Oak Grove, Bates
City and parts of Grain Valley and the surrounding unincorporated
areas. Its boundaries cover 78 square miles, 40 in Jackson County
and 38 in Lafayette County.
Services include fire suppression and rescue, advanced life support
emergencymedical service, hazardousmaterials team in cooperation
withFort Osage andCentral JacksonCounty (CJC) fire districts, busi-
ness safety inspections and emergency management in cooperation
with Oak Grove Emergency Management Agency.
The district boundaries are the Johnson County line on the south,
Route F (Truman Road) on the north, an imaginary line extending
north and south from the 33 mile marker of I-70 on the east, and
another imaginary line extending north and south from the 25 mile
marker on the west.
Two fire stations are located in the district to more quickly serve
residents. Station 1, at 1600 Broadway, Oak Grove and Sation 2, at
207 E. Market Street, Bates City. Stations are staffed 24 hours per
day, seven days per week.
Response service is provided by 18 full-time firefighting and EMS
personnel, seven reserve personnel and two chief officers. All personnel
are cross-trained as firefighters and emergency medical technicians
with10 personnel certified to the paramedic level. They are responsible
for all service delivery to citizens whether that be the installation of
smoke detectors, fighting fires, responding to anautomobile accident or
providing life-saving cardiac care.

Personnel attend and conduct training regularly in order to keep
skills sharp and keep pace with current trends. In 2016, personnel
attended 260 training courses representing 2111.25 training hours.
Emergency response is provided by two Advanced Life Support
ambulances and two Class A fire apparatus.
Crewmembers reduce risk in the community through plan review,
construction inspections, community planning through codes, public
fire safety education, a smoke detector program, fire extinguisher
classes, address signs for county residents and a fourth-grade fire
academy. Academy is a year-long school program which teaches chil-
dren emergency preparedness, awareness and resources available
in the community in case of an emergency. It is never too early in a
child’s life to initiate fire safety training.
Alongwith its public education program, SVFPDalso values the op-
portunity to be active and encouragingmentorswithin the community
by providing blood pressure checks twicemonthly at the Davis Center
and Oak Grove Manor, standbys at football games, parade participa-
tion, Septemberfest, trunk or treat and shop with a hero. Personnel

also conduct monthly CPR training classes at Station 1.
The department hasmutual aid agreements with other fire depart-
ments, and immediate response agreements withFort Osage, Odessa,
Lone Jack and CJC fire departments.
There is no cost to anyonewishing to obtain a burning permit. Burn
permits may be obtained at Station 1. The district is funded by a tax
levy and 1/2 cent sales tax that provides operating funds. The levy
has not been raised since 2005.
A board of directors which normally meets at 6 p.m. the third
Tuesday of the month at the Oak Grove station oversees operations.
