ATTRACTING EXCEPTIONAL TALENT IS MORE CRUCIAL THAN EVER BEFORE. 2021 Tyree Davis IV Then: Community diversity and equity director, Community Partnership of the Ozarks Inc. Now: Adviser to the city manager for diversity, equity and inclusion, city of Rockville, Maryland Tyree Davis IV now lives around 1,000 miles from Springfield, where he formerly was employed by Community Partnership of the Ozarks. Last year, he took a job as adviser to the city manager for diversity, equity and inclusion in the Maryland city of Rockville, located near Washington, D.C. There, he says he’s building Rockville’s DEI division from the ground up. “The position was created after the murder of George Floyd,” Davis, 29, says, noting he’s working on “taking it from the diversity piece and moving in into the equity, the justice component.” Shortly after his 40 Under 40 recognition, Davis realized his time in the Queen City had come to an end. “I was just ready to leave,” he says, noting he cast a wide net looking for jobs elsewhere. “I feel like I had accomplished all I could in Springfield and Missouri.” Best advice to young professionals? Take up the space. It is hard to feel seen, heard and valued, but we are the future so try to take up the space! She started TheraCare Outpatient Services, built it to a $1 million organization in eight years, then sold it. But it wasn’t that scripted. “I didn’t plan for TheraCare to grow like it did. I didn’t plan for the buyout,” she says, noting she was just meeting a community need. “I’ve approached life with open hands.” Now, a Missouri House of Representatives seat is in her hands. The mid-2022 sale of TheraCare to fellow nonprofit The Arc of the Ozarks followed Sinnett’s announcement to run for House District 133, which she won in November 2022. Similar to the way Stinnett jumped in to meet a need for children’s outpatient therapy services with TheraCare, the freshman representative already has sponsored five bills in her first session. Best advice to young professionals? You may manage policies and processes within a business or organization, but you lead people. Keeping those separate helps me focus on nurturing and helping people grow. —Eric Olson, Editorial Vice President Past Honorees
