A difficult childhood, coupled with fertility issues and the loss of her husband, police officer Christopher Walsh, who was shot and killed in the line of duty, have only compounded her resolve to push forward – and to tell her story. “I have a story about resilience and the power of pushing through the pain,” says the 34-year-old. “I hope more people like me … gain representation in our local success stories. “Representation matters, and I want young adults to know even though they couldn’t pick their past, they have what it takes to pick their future accomplishments.” Walsh did just that when she realized a dream to start Hiveminded Marketing. She’s CEO for the firm that has helped several small businesses and nonprofits with free or at-cost marketing, launched a nonprofit fundraiser and woven volunteerism into its fabric. What did you learn the hard way? Failure feeds innovation. If you want to offer the world something new, learn how to learn from your mistakes without breaking yourself down in the process. Perfectionism kills creativity. Best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Slow down and pause before making big decisions. And if you can’t, surround yourself with people who can. Favorite food item and drink to order in the Springfield area? Sashimi and a smoked margarita from Haruno. Samantha Williams is acutely aware she is a people person. And it’s served her well. Williams, 30, uses her empathy daily as analytics sales manager for IntrinsiQ Specialty Solutions as she works through client issues and manages a $4.9 million book of business across 11 pharmaceutical and biotech clients. She uses it as she mentors young employees and counsels friends. And she used it as manager of community impact for Junior League of Springfield. “I owe much of my success to the people who have poured into me, and for that reason, I am passionate about nurturing and helping to develop others,” she says. “Fostering an environment where people feel seen and secure being themselves promotes inclusion and success for not only them but also for the whole team. “One of the best gifts you can give someone is your time and intentional effort.” Your proudest moment? Hosting a surprise 30th anniversary party for my parents. We had nearly 100 people there including friends and family from out of town. The moment they walked up the stairs and realized what was happening is a moment I’ll never forget. My parents have done so much for me and I was so excited to do something for them in return. Best productivity hack? Making to-do lists for my to-do lists, and the Task feature in Microsoft Outlook. Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
