SPRINGFIELD BUSINESS JOURNAL · 23 MARCH 6-12, 2023 40 UNDER 40 The caseload for attorney Syd Tippie is significant – around 250 felony cases at any given time – and he says he doesn’t take his responsibility lightly. Tippie recognizes his work has a substantial impact on members of the community. As senior assistant prosecutor with the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, where he’s worked since 2017, Tippie, 31, says by the time he turned 30 he already had successfully tried roughly 40 cases, some involving murder and robbery. His interest in serving the public extends outside the office, including volunteering on the Missouri Bar’s Young Lawyers’ Section, as well as being a member of the Springfield Little Theatre’s Associate Board of Directors. Best productivity hack? Learn to say no. What did you learn the hard way? Do not waste your time seeking the approval of people that you will never appease. Best piece of advice you’ve ever received? No task is beneath you. Don’t put yourself above anyone or anything; work hard in silence and let success make the noise. Your most treasured possession? A newspaper clipping from the early 1990s depicting my late grandmother accepting a Purple Heart on behalf of her husband, David Ludlow. My grandfather was one of the 270 victims of the Pan Am Flight 103 Lockerbie bombing. What historical figure do you identify with most? Teddy Roosevelt. —Mike Cullinan, Reporter SYD TIPPIE Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office Kathryn Wall found her career passion early in college by being accepted to a program that focused on empowering women. Post college, she dedicated her time to a two-year journalistic project called the “Every Child Promise,” aimed at meeting the needs of children in the community. Wall, 36, has always been passionate about giving back. She moved on to work in health care, specializing in mental health efforts, and from those experiences she realized the power in telling the stories of others. Wall joined Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks in April 2021 as the director of community engagement. She launched the BCFO’s first new program in more than a decade, focusing on women under 35 diagnosed with breast cancer. She raised $6,000 to fund it within five weeks. Your proudest moment? Getting to stand on the stage at the Gillioz Theatre surrounded by breast cancer survivors making the announcement to launch our under-35 diagnostic mammogram program. There’s something really special about sharing an accomplishment with a group of people who understand that need better than anyone could. Best piece of advice you’ve ever received? You don’t make friends when you need them. If I had tried to introduce myself to community partners as the pandemic started, I couldn’t have made an impact. Favorite food item to order in the Springfield area? Anything from Cesar’s Old Mexico. —Presley Puig, Editorial Intern KATHRYN WALL Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks HEATHER MOSLEY C gra u ati , Kel !
