Central Bank makes history with new president Joselyn Baldner becomes organization’s first female president, an industry rarity by Mike Cullinan · mcullinan@sbj.net Central Bank of the Ozarks named Joselyn Baldner as president Jan. 21, making her the first female to fill the role in the organization’s 64-year history. Baldner was elected by the bank board as president and chief operating officer, effective immediately, as part of a company succession plan. As president, she succeeds Russ Marquart, who remains with the bank as CEO and board chairperson ahead of his planned phased retirement. Marquart said via email he will remain with the bank “for the foreseeable future” and assist with transitioning departments under Baldner’s leadership during the next few months. Bank officials say no one other than Baldner is part of the succession plan. “Joselyn exhibits the qualities you look for in a great leader: intelligence, focus on re- sults, fairness in decision making and, most of all, a drive to serve customers with legendary service,” Marquart said via email. Baldner, a 23-year banking industry veteran, started in 2005 at Central Bank and was promoted to executive vice president and retail market manager in 2014, she said. She became chief retail officer in 2016, a role in which she was responsible for leading the retail, business banking and training divisions. “I’m honored and excited to have the opportunity that I’ve been preparing for a number of years,” she said. First female Baldner said she recognizes the significance of being the company’s first female president. CoxHealth to build $13M ‘super clinic’ in east Springfield by Geoff Pickle · gpickle@sbj.net CoxHealth is planning a $13 million “super clinic” in southeast Springfield. The 30,000-square-foot health care center at the U.S. Highway 65 and Battlefield Road intersection is slated for completion by year’s end, according to a news re- lease. CoxHealth spokesperson Kaitlyn McConnell said J.E. Dunn Construction Group Inc. is serving as general contractor for the project designed by H Design Group LLC and Overland Park, Kansas-based BSA LifeStruc- tures Inc. “We believe that this facility will give even more op- tions for care that are convenient for our patients and al- low us to serve them when and how they need us,” said Max Buetow, vice president of Cox Medical Group, in the release. McConnell said the development site is at the northeast corner of the intersection, near Jack Henry & Associates Inc.’s (Nasdaq: JKHY) Springfield campus. Greene County assessor and recorder data show CoxHealth purchased roughly 17 acres at 3525 E. Battlefield Road from McLean Enterprises Inc. on Dec. 29. The note amount is not listed. Springfield City Council last year voted to rezone the acreage to general retail. Property owner Lee McLean III of McLean Enterprises said at the time that plans were un- derway to sell the land to an unnamed buyer. The vote also established a conventional overlay district and prohibited convenience stores and 24-hour service stations from buy- ing the land, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. CoxHealth officials have used the term “super clinic” to refer to facilities with multiple types of health care in one place. The clinic in Springfield is designed for urgent and primary care, physical therapy, and on-site radiology and lab services, according to the release. CoxHealth’s most recent “super clinic” opened last month in Ozark. The $9 million center followed the De- cember opening of a $10 million similar clinic in Nixa. Others are underway in Monett and Republic.
