The money will be used to establish the Phil Roberts Scholarship Fund to award $2,000 annu- ally to about 22 business majors who have at least a 3.0 GPA in their studies at the College of Business. Roberts attended MSU after serving in the military, graduating in 1950 with a degree in finance and general business. All three of Roberts’ sons attended MSU, too. The scholarship is not the first one established by Roberts. In 1983, he created an MSU scholarship in hon- or of his mentor, Don Calame, and since then it has been awarded to 131 College of Business students. “A grateful heart gives back,” said Brent Dunn, execu- tive director of the MSU Foundation, in the release. “Phil Roberts fondly recalls his time at Missouri State and has passed down that love to his family. With this endowment, he guarantees more students can attend college that couldn’t otherwise and ensures that they aren’t unnecessarily burdened with student loans.” The donation is a contributor to MSU’s $250 mil- lion Onward Upward capital campaign. The foundation has secured more than $205 million to date, according to past reporting. Interim dean named at MSU MSU gets $1M donation for biz scholarships by SBJ Staff · sbj@sbj.net The Missouri State University College of Education is undergoing a leadership change as its dean prepares to retire. Barri Tinkler, the college’s associate dean, is slated to become interim dean on Jan. 3, according to a news re- lease. She’ll succeed David Hough, who’s scheduled to retire Feb. 1. The college announced his retirement in September. “Dr. Tinkler will bring a strong history of teaching and adminis- trative experience to the College of Education,” MSU Provost Frank Einhellig said in the release. “She will help COE continue its tradition of ed- ucating tomorrow’s teachers.” Tinkler also has served as in- terim department head for coun- seling, leadership and special education since May. She joined MSU last year as asso- ciate dean of the College of Education after previously working 2009-2019 as a faculty member for the Univer- sity of Vermont. Tinkler’s salary as interim dean will be $140,000, ac- cording to an MSU spokesperson. The university plans to conduct a national search for a permanent successor to Hough.
