We’re over 13,000 strong—over 9,000 girls and 4,000 adults who believe girls can change the world. It began over 100 years ago with one woman, Girl Scouts’ founder Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low. She organized the first Girl Scout troop in March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, and every year since, we’ve made her vision a reality, helping girls discover their strengths, passions, and talents. Today we continue the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Our mission does not specify a place and that’s because our girls can exhibit courage, confidence, and character wherever they are—including from home. These are the girls and young women who dream big and do bigger . Studies show that when girls are with other girls and only girls, they’re more likely to try new things and engage in healthy competition. Launching Pad In a world filled with “girl power” messaging, it’s easy for girls to feel pressure to be perfect and excel in all things. But in an all-girl environment, she doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone. Judgment Free Zone Being in single-gender environments means girls are more likely to show interest in and explore STEM activities like robotics, engineering, and cybersecurity. Personal Laboratory Everything a Girl Scout does—whether it’s climbing mountains , speaking her mind, or dreaming up new technology —has been developed especially for, and is tested by, girls. Girl Scouts is a world where girls can do, and be, whatever they dream.
