They knew domestic violence had touched both of their lives and wanted to stop the cycle of abuse within their families and help to restore others. In 2018, The Fords relocated to Springfield, Missouri and quickly began their work within the community. Shortly after the move, The Rebound opened their first transitional home in Springfield, known as Marda’s House. Marda’s House is a transitional living program where women and children survivors can enjoy clean, stable housing for up to six months while they work toward independence. Housed residents participate in outreach case management, financial planning, and individualized goals during their stay. All activities are aimed towards self-sufficiency and self-empowerment. There are currently two Marda’s House Homes located in Springfield, Missouri.  Throughout the 2018-19 school year, The Rebound has been represented in the Springfield Public Schools Empowerment Groups and local youth groups teaching students about healthy relationships and education on teen dating violence. Through these engagements, The Rebound formed a preven- tion program known as Block. The Block program is a prevention initiative to break the cycle of domestic violence, teen dating violence and sexual assault by providing quality education to help build a culture of nonviolence in youth, teach safe and healthy rela- tionships and equip leaders with the right tools to educate the youth they serve.
