Frequently Asked Questions about E-Editions
What extra benefits to publishers come with E-Edition hosting?
If you have an E-Edition with Newz Group and are a member of any of our partnering press associations, you will receive complimentary digital archiving that is equipped with browsing and text-searchable features. If you are not a member of a partnering press association, you will receive low-cost digital archiving. Please contact us for more information.
In what formats are the E-Editions hosted?
The E-Editions are hosted in PDF and Flippingbook formats. Readers will be able to flip through the pages, zoom in and out, search the text and more.
Does my newspaper need a website in order to have an E-Edition?
No. We host E-Editions on a customized site, which can be linked using social media or emailed to subscribers.
What types of publications are supported by Newz Group E-Editions?
Currently Newz Group hosts newspapers and magazines. However, if you are interested in E-Edition hosting for a different type of publication, please contact us. We are always open to discussing other options.
Will the E-Editions be compatible with smartphones and tablets?
Yes, the E-Editions are compatible smartphones and tablets. Users do not need an app. They can access the website just as they do on their computer, and this includes the Flippingbook feature. The software we use to host E-Editions works well on Apple and Android products. A demo is available for review.
Is there any way to prevent people from sharing passwords?
Your E-Edition can be monitored to track the number of IP addresses accessing it at any given time with one password. If you believe a user is misusing their access, you can change the password, cancel the subscription, contact the customer, or take other appropriate action. This is an optional add-on feature available for a nominal monthly fee.
Are subscribers alerted when their subscription is about to expire?
Yes. An email will go out automatically one month before the subscription is over and will provide the information needed to renew the expiring subscription.
Who handles subscriptions and revenue?
Publishers handle all subscriptions and revenue. If a reader wants to subscribe to the E-Edition, they will contact your paper to get set up. Through the control panel, you will enter their contact, billing and login information. Here you will also enter a subscription end date that will eventually trigger the automatic renewal letter. There is also an option to link to your PayPal account on the E-Edition landing page for a nominal monthly fee.
Who has access to the control panel?
Publishers will be given an administrator password and username. The control panel can only be accessed with that username and password.
How many editions will be available to subscribers to access?
Unless you specify otherwise, subscribers will only be able to access the past three months of editions.
Do subscribers have access to the digital archives?
No, subscribers will not have access to digital archives unless you specify otherwise. Archive access may be built into the subscription price, or made available behind a paywall.
Where do we upload our publications for the E-Edition and digital archiving?
You only have to upload your publication to one location for E-Editions and digital archiving. You can upload your publication through your state press association portal, where available, or through the publisher portal. Fill out this form to get started (Digital Archiving Sign Up).
If I am currently uploading to your Publisher Portal for digital archiving, will there be any additional steps to uploading if I get an E-Edition?
No. If you want E-Edition service, we will need some basic setup information, which can be found here (E-Edition Sign Up), and we will take it from there.
How soon is the E-Edition available after we upload the pages to you?
The E-Edition will be available for viewing within 12 hours after uploading. You can choose the day and time you want your E-Edition to “go live.” Your E-Edition can be posted anytime you wish during normal business hours.
Does it cost anything to upload back copies of my publication to be hosted as an E-Edition?
There is no cost for making up to three months worth of past editions available. Additional fees apply to posting back copies in the interactive format, and for archives older than three months.
How much does it cost to have my publication hosted as an E-Edition?
E-Edition hosting is an affordable, flat rate service. There are no extra monthly, annual, processing or per-page fees. Prices start as low as $69 per month.
Can I bundle add-on features into a low-cost package?
Yes, you can. There are three package options available as shown above. Price quotes are based on frequency, reach, and the number of publications hosted.
