Jeanette Nickels serves as district manager and Margaret Howerton is district clerk. The district serves 3424 customers, including the towns of Wellington, Napoleon, Bates City and Lake Lafayette. The district offers automatic bill payment for customers. If interested in this option, contact the office. The district now accepts debit and credit cards with a 3% convenience fee. There are no after-hours reconnections. To help alleviate problems caused by electrical outages, the district has a generator at the main pump station and a portable generator which can be moved between pump stations, to allow it to be filling towers should widespread electrical outage occur. The district is working with the city of Independence for a second master meter for the north side of the water district. This will bring additional water to the district and supply more water in needed areas. Meter deposits are $100 for renters and $60 for owners. An engineer reviews applications once a month to determine whether existing lines will handle increased loads without decreasing the quality to customers. The application fee for submittal is $2560.
