2023-2024 Odessa City Guide Page 59 Odessa Area Historical Society was organized in June 2008, with the purpose to preserve and protect the historical artifacts of Odessa and the surrounding area, generally the Odessa R-7 School District, and to educate the general public on the history and heritage of the Odessa area. Donation of many items in the society’s collection was made by the family of the late Kay and Laurence Sanders in the hope that a historical society for Odessa would be formed. The Sanders’ granddaughter, Laura, sought the assistance of the community to form a board and establish a historical society. Odessa Area Historical Society and Museum is located at 203 South Second St., in downtown Odessa. The space was donated for use to the Society by the Bank of Odessa in 2015. Activities of the Society include archival and storage of the vast collection, rotation of museum displays throughout the year, historical programs hosted by the Odessa Library, hosting an AllClass OHS Reunion Happy Hour during Homecoming weekend, and trivia night fundraisers. For additional information, please contact Laura Sanders at 816416-9588 or email the Society at oahsmo@gmail.com.
