The Board of Directors works to promote community and business relations, to keep the businesses informed of current news, make business contacts, schedule events and build business relationships. Through membership meetings held the fourth Wednesday of each month, after-hours social gatherings, ribbon cuttings and its newsletter, the Chamber provides networking opportunities for members. “The networking we do during membership meetings and our event volunteer times is critical for our small businesses. This is where our members develop and learn what is successful or not and gives us the knowledge to cross-sell so all our businesses are successful,” Kelsey Legate, board president, said. The Chamber’s main fundraiser each year is the Odessa Rodeo in June. A portion of funds raised from this event goes to community betterment, such as replacement of the downtown Christmas lights and the Downtown Lighting Ceremony held the Monday before Thanksgiving. “We work in conjunction with downtown Odessa, Inc. and Downtown Merchants to promote local businesses and make Odessa a destination to shop, dine and stay as well as a marketable destination for future development,” Legate said. Executive board members for the Chamber of Commerce are Kelsey Legate, Local Living Real Estate, president, Harley Amos Todd, Heritage Realty, vice president, Shelby Varner, SERC Physical Therapy, secretary, Candy Hall, Bank of Odessa,treasurer. Other elected board members include Megan Cobb, Collision Leaders, Cathy Thompson, Central Bank, Brenda Oliver, Heritage Realty, Kim Rider, State Farm, Candice Stevenson, Central Bank, Thad Madsen, State Farm, Shawna Davis, City of Odessa and Roger Feagan, Odessa R-7 School District hold appointed board seats.
