2023-2024 Odessa City Guide Page 49 Odessa Community Service Center (OCSC) at 212 South Second Street is in the heart of downtown. In 1991, the center opened in response to needs and the transportation problems posed for families traveling to Lexington for services. The center is open 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Phone number is 230-7558. OCSC relies heavily on private donations from churches, schools and businesses and a generous community. Additional sources of support and funding come from the Salvation Army Bell Ringing program where 85¢ of each dollar donated is returned to the community to provide utility assistance for families. Center coordinates with churches, businesses and the community on an annual Christmas Adoption program that provides Christmas gifts for children. School supplies for K-8th grades are collected prior to the beginning of the school year and at Thanksgiving, the center provides families with food to make a turkey dinner. Center is a Harvesters Food Agency providing USDA commodities for families. In addition, the center operates a food pantry. A summer kids food program provides kid-friendly food for children. In addition to food and utilities assistance, other services include emergency prescription and Christmas adoption program. OCSC works with the Health Care Collaborative of Rural Missouri, House of Hope and Missouri Community Action Agency of Lafayette County to provide individual and family services and offers referral services for those in need. Center operates with an all-volunteer staff led by Craig Kidwell, director. Of cers are Linda Elliott, president, Larry Hol, vice president, Donna Ryder, secretary, Sharon Petkoff, treasurer.
