2023-2024 Odessa City Guide Page 44 Service Odessa Optimist Club was chartered in September of 1974 with 41 members, two of whom are still members. There presently are 22 members. Optimists meet at 6:45 a.m. the second Thursday at JJ’s Down Home Cafe. Larry Hol is president. Club sponsors events for youth in the community including the Optimist train, bicycle drag races at Puddle Jumper Days, youth wrestling, scholarships for Odessa High School graduates, Project Grad, AAU track meets, swim parties, sponsorship of a student to the Missouri Leadership Seminar and sponsoring soccer, t-ball and basketball teams through the Odessa Parks and Recreation Department. Odessa Optimists The Optimist Train travels to several events in the area and is a favorite among local children.
