The Girl Scout Promise and The Girl Scout Law continue to provide the foundation for the largest and most influential organization for girls in the world. When girls get outdoors, they discover they can better solve problems and overcome challenges; develop leadership skills, build social bonds and are happier overall; become team players and care more about protecting our environment. Girl Scouts focus on teaching the leadership skills necessary for success in the real world. Of all female business owners, 80% are Girl Scouts as are 60% of women who currently serve in Congress. Service Unit 647 serves girls in Lone Jack, Oak Grove, Grain Valley and Blue Springs. Locally there are more than 350 registered Girl Scouts and 120 adult volunteer leaders who serve as role models and help make a lasting impression on the lives of girls. In addition to completing requirements to earn badges, Girl Scouts choose and complete community action (service) projects as part of troop activities. The cookie program teaches girl goals setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics, as well as providing funds for camping and field trips.
