2022-2023 Focus on Oak Grove City Guide Page 44 ServiceChamber of Commerce The Oak Grove Chamber provides leadership by connecting people, resources and opportunities within our community where we live, work and do business. The Chamber is formed of local business people interested in helping their fellow local businesses. Members are promoted through the Chamber of Commerce website and Facebook page. Some chamber benefits are direct such as networking events and discounts on products and services that people already use every day. Other benefits are indirect, such as governmental efforts that serve as an advocate for businesses. The Chamber offers different membership levels that come with options to advertise/sponsor various events. Chamber events include the Taste of Country, an event to showcase local restaurants and entertainment establishments held at the Fieldhouse; the Panther Golf Tournament, an event held in spring to raise scholarship money for local graduates; Lick Skillet Days, a fall festival which includes food, vendors, entertainment, and family games, and Small Business Saturdays with local specials and food vendors. The Chamber sponsors a farmer’s market, which is held the first Saturday of April through the first Saturday of November on Broadway, near the railroad tracks; hours are Wednesdays, 3-7 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday, 7 a.m-2 p.m. The Chamber of Commerce dedicates proceeds from the yearly golf tournament to scholarships for graduating seniors, and the Chamber welcomes teams of businesses and sponsors for the event and silent auction. The Chamber holds an annual banquet and awards ceremony at the beginning of the year to recognize citizens, businesses and volunteers of the year. The organization also assists in the planning of the Trails for Treats trick-or-treating event and Chocolate Hop in downtown, the Christmas parade and Winter Wonderland, and the mayor’s breakfast and state of the city address. Monthly luncheons are held the second Tuesday of every month and are open to the public. Members are encouraged to come early to socialize and network. There is a cost for non-members. Speakers as well as local members and businesses are part of the luncheon programs. Trivia nights are held quarterly. Shayla Baxter is the chamber’s director of economic development. The 2022 Executive Board of Directors are Maeghan Timothy, president; Alana Bloom,treasurer; and Ruth Ann Hafner, secretary. The Chamber is currently renovating their space at 1300 S. Broadway.
