Broadway The Davis Center was created in 1992 with memorial funds Devone Davis willed to Masonic Lodge #392. Ownership of the center is now with the city of Oak Grove, and the Parks and Recreation Department oversees it. The Senior Center offers service to those 60 and older or those with disabilities in Oak Grove. Renovations were made to the facility over the course of 20202021 as the facility received a facelift with new paint, fans, equipment, tables and chairs. The offices of Kathy Trites, director, and Camilla Driver, administrative assistant, are on the lower floor. A reception desk in the lobby area allows for convenient check-in for lunches and programming, and several monitors display upcoming events. Lunch is served Monday-Friday at noon through an arrangement with the Mid-America Regional Council and the Don Bosco Center. The suggested donation for those 59 and older is $2 and $6.75 for those under 59. The center also oversees the Meals on Wheels program for individuals 60 or older who demonstrate a physical or mental need for food assistance and are homebound. Area churches rotate volunteers to deliver the meals to individuals. Meal reservations must be made at least one day in advance at 816-690-4003 ext. 4. Transportation is available for those living in the city limits and unable to drive. The facilities include pool tables. Residents can come before lunch or stay after as the center is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and is closed on major holidays. Card games, board games and Bingo are offered on alternating days after lunch. Sni Valley Fire Protection District provides blood pressure checks once per month as their schedule permits, and the Visiting Nurse Association gives blood pressure checks the fourth Wednesday of the month from 10 a.m.-noon as well as periodic blood work. Pot luck meals are held once a month, and festivities that coordinate with holidays are celebrated. Field trips are also offered. The Davis Center is a place for individuals to gather, volunteer and socialize, and is available for rent through the Parks and Recreation Department at (816) 690-4003. Any time, any where...
