2020-2021 Focus on Oak Grove City Guide Page 9 City New City Hall A Ribbon Cutting and an Open House for City Hall and the Police Department was held February 27 at 2100 S. Broadway after renovation of the former Oak Grove Civic Center was completed at the beginning of the year. The facility combines the two city services in one location for community convenience, and repurposes the building to serve both the needs of the City of Oak Grove staff and administration as well as a public safety facility suited to police work. A conference room in the police portion allows for victims of crime to share details in private. The detention unit includes three cells, one of which is ADA compliant, all with bathroom appliances. Other additions to the police facility include an interrogation room, an evidence room, special entry for individuals posting bond, a secure room for City Hall and Police Department servers, a roll call room, an armory, a room to house K9 Merlin’s equipment and a 40x60 foot sally port. The sally port allows for vehicles to be pulled inside the secure area and the transfer of individuals under arrest as well as providing shelter for police department equipment. Department vehicle repair and a secure area to search vehicles are other sally port features. The Board of Alderman continue to meet in the lower level where the municipal court is also located. City employees in the Public Works Department completed much of the renovation work as well as a number of subcontractors, allowing for a savings to the $1.5 million budget for the facility. The building lobby gives access to both city offices, where citizens can pay water bills, and the police department. Work on the project began August 2017 with the demolition of the bathhouse located next to the former swimming pool while demolition of the interior of the Civic Center began in early December 2018 when events were no longer scheduled for the space. Suggestions to renovate the space came as a result of a facilities study in 2013, followed by a 2015 community survey. A steering committee worked through those studies.
