2019-2020 Focus on Oak Grove City Guide Page 41 Mail USPS Post Office The history of the postal service in Oak Grove dates back to 1840. Since 1995, the post office has been at 1700 Broadway. David Dyer was named Postmaster November 15, 2014. Staff members in the office are Jennifer Ison, supervisor, customer service, Brenda Fowler, Renee Olvera and Shelby Webb, clerks. Today, there are 17 rural carrier employees who deliver mail to Oak Grove and Bates City residents on rural delivery routes. Some rural routes are more than 50 miles long, while others closer to home are less than 20. An average 600 deliveries make up a typical day for a carrier on only one route. In addition to the 11 daily delivery routes, there are more than 800 boxes available, of which 670 are rented. The post office box section is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Carriers make more than 6000 deliveries each day, as residential areas are rapidly growing. State of the art technology continues to improve service. With the website, www.usps.com, it is possible to calculate postage and prepare and send packages without leaving home. Revenue still goes back to the local post office. In addition to the typical services, the post office provides migratory and waterfowl stamps for purchase through the Conservation Department. Customers also may opt to receive their stamps by mail. Selective service registration for males turning 18 is offered as well. Post office service hours are 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., and 12 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday, with the lobby open 24 hours. To contact the post office, call 690-3500.
