2019-2020 Focus on Oak Grove City Guide Page 14 Services Sni Valley Fire District Sni Valley Fire Station 1 is located at 1600 S. Broadway. Sni Valley Fire Protection District is an all-hazards emergency services provider to the residents of eastern Jackson and western Lafayette counties. The district serves the cities of Oak Grove, Bates City and parts of Grain Valley and the surrounding unincorporated areas. Its boundaries cover 78 square miles, 40 in Jackson County and 38 in Lafayette County. Services include fire suppression and rescue, advanced life support emergency medical service, hazardous materials team in cooperation with Fort Osage and Central Jackson County (CJC) fire districts, business safety inspections and emergency management in cooperation with Oak Grove Emergency Management Agency. The district boundaries are the Johnson County line on the south side, Route F (Truman Road) on the north, an imaginary line extending north and south from the 33-mile marker of I-70 on the east, and another imaginary line extending north and south from the 25-mile marker on the west. Two fire stations are located in the district to more quickly serve residents: Station 1, at 1600 Broadway, Oak Grove, and Station 2, at 207 E. Market St., Bates City. Stations are staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week. An administrative assistant is available to assist patrons. Response service is provided by 30 full-time firefighting and EMS personnel including three chief officers. All personnel are cross-trained as firefighters and emergency medical technicians with nine personnel certified at the paramedic level. Emergency response is provided by two Advanced Life Support ambulances and two pieces of Class A fire apparatus. Crew members reduce risk in the community through plan review, constructions inspections, community planning through codes, public fire safety education, a smoke detector program, fire extinguisher classes, address signs for county residents and a fourth-grade fire academy. Academy is a year-long school program which teaches children emergency preparedness, awareness and resources available in the community in case of an emergency. Along with its public education program, SVFPD also values the opportunity to be active and encourages mentoring within the community by providing blood pressure checks twice monthly at the Davis Center and Oak Grove Manor, standbys at football games, parade participation, SEPTFEST, trunk or treat and Shop with a Hero. Personnel also conduct CPR training at Station 1. The department has mutual aid agreements with other fire departments and immediate response agreements with Fort Osage, Lone Jack and CJC fire departments. There is no cost to anyone wishing to obtain a burning permit. Burn permits may be obtained at Station 1. The district is funded by a tax levy and a 1/2 cent sales tax that provides operating funds. In April 2018, voters approved a gradual levy increase to pay for the current number of firefighters. A board of directors which normally meets at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Oak Grove station oversees operations. Board members are Matt Beal, president; Roger Lake, secretary; Terri Stahl, treasurer; Jeff Jennings and Rick Bedwell. District business office is at 1600 S. Broadway, Oak Grove.
