2019-2020 Focus on Oak Grove City Guide Page 9 City Facilities plan The former Oak Grove Civic Center, 2100 S. Broadway, is currently under renovation, being converted into a new City Hall and Public Safety Facility for Oak Grove. With a $1.5 million budget to renovate the facility, much of the work has been done through Public Works employees as well as a number of subcontractors who gutted the facility which formerly included the community center and swimming pool. Both the city and police department will share a lobby area within the main entrance. The former pool area will house the majority of the Oak Grove Police Department allowing for three detention cells as well as evidence, booking and bonding rooms. Individual offices, meeting and interview rooms also are included in this space, as well as a front office off the lobby for the administrative assistant to handle community needs. A sally port, placed south of the facility, where the pool was located, will allow for easier transportation of suspects and storage of vehicles. City administrators and staff will have individual office spaces within their area of the facility, with a window off the lobby where citizens can pay water bills. Work on the project began August 2017 with the demolition of the bathhouse while demolition of the interior of the Civic Center began in early December 2018. Municipal Court continues to be housed in the lower level as is the area designated for Board of Aldermen meetings. The Parks and Recreation Department, has relocated inside the Fieldhouse. New floorplan will provide aldermen with a private room when the board adjourns into executive session. Suggestions to renovate the space came as a result of a facilities study in 2013, followed by a 2015 community survey. The current City Hall was built as a doctor’s office, and the police station was intended for use as an ambulance service.
