City Overview

Perfectly situated between

rural Missouri and the Kansas

City metropolitan area, Oak

Grove offers the best of both

worlds. A prime stop along

Interstate 70, Oak Grove is

home to two major truck stops,

and will see the construction of a

Divergent Diamond Interchange

beginning spring 2018 and end-

ing fall of 2018. With 55 per-

cent of homes valued between

$100,000-$149,999, it exceeds

that of Eastern Jackson County

and the Kansas City metropoli-

tan area.

Brief History

The first citizen John McKin-

ney arrived in the early 1800s as

he followed the Shawnee trace,

and established the settlement

first known as Lickskillet. A

Post Office was established in

July 25, 1840 and the town was

named Oak Grove. The town

was incorporated in 1881 and

consisted of 40 acres with a

population of 280. Today the

town includes 3,200 acres.

During the Civil War the com-

munity was a home for guerilla

leader Quantrill and many of

the Oak Grove youth were in his
